Our program

With Book Nook Preschool I have found children are able to adapt & feel more comfortable & calm in a warm home like setting. We are currently accepting applications for 3-6.5 year olds.
â€¢Your little one must be 3 years old before entering our program.

Here at Book Nook, we strive to explore new fascinating worlds for your child. It’s a safe place for their imagination to go free and for them to take control of their own learning experience. We will have entertaining guests come in to teach yoga, music & other special activities for your child to learn about. We also have an awesome worm farm at our school that the children can help out with. We try our very best to keep our room as sustainable as we can by recycling & reusing as much as possible. Being in a home setting we are able to have the children help bake up some tasting healthy treats throughout the school year and discover food from around the world.
This being our first year, our class will be very small, around a 8:1 ratio.

Through planned activities students will uncover so many new & wonderful things including:
•Children's literature- we have SO.MANY.BOOKS at The Book Nook!

•Gross-motor and fine-motor play

•Dress up & make believe

•Letters and numbers

•Science & Nature

•Music & Dance

•Math activities

•Gardening

•Baking

•Yoga

•Arts and crafts galore
...and much more!

School Goals

Staying Safe:
Keeping kids at Book Nook Preschool safe is clearly of utmost importance! They should always feel safe physically and mentally around me and the other children within the classroom. Children will be expected to keep their hands and feet to themselves. We will discuss and model ways to play both indoors and outdoors safely. I will also help students learn to manage and control their own behaviors and feelings.  NOTE: There are strict boundaries around toy weapons and play fighting. There is zero tolerance for toy weapons at school. I understand, and also respect, that this is common and welcomed in many homes. Please respect that it is not allowed at school, and keep these toys at home (especially if it is your child’s sharing day as they will not be allowed to share it).

Staying respectful:

I will always respect your children. Kids are such amazing tiny people, they often teach us more than we think. This is something I am reminded every day as a teacher. At Book Nook, we will continually work on respecting each other. This will include: always using kind words, open communication, socializing, problem-solving in a respectful way, including everyone in play, listening to one another, and taking turns & sharing.

Staying consistent:

While the themes and activities within the school change all the time, our daily rhythm always remains the same.

At preschool age, routine is so VERY important for children.

The daily rhythm at Book Nook Preschool was created with children’s true needs in mind: new activities to absorb on a daily/weekly basis to stimulate both the body & mind. We have a daily structured routine so the children always know what is expected of them during their time here at school.

Our Daily Rhythm

Our typical day....with a little wiggle room:

9:00AM- Welcome!!! Doors are unlocked and family’s arrive! Kiddo will say their goodbyes at the door. Shoes come off, coats & backpacks hung in their cubbies. We will wash hands before entering the classroom and start our morning.

9:00AM-9:20AM-Choice Time- Children can play freely and explore any of the activities that are out for our weekly theme. They can play in the kitchen area, get lost in a new book or dress up & socialize with their tiny friends. I will keep other activities in rotation as well.

9:20AM-Circle time & daily project-

After a morning of choice time children are very eager for our daily gathering around the circle! Circle time includes our weekly letter of study, calendar talk, songs/dance/yoga, a story, and show & share with their friends! On your child's show & share day each month they get to be our "special helper" at circle time...it has become one of the kid’s favorite activities!

*Project time is different each day, but typically goes along with our weekly/monthly theme.

10:00AM-Snack time!- Your child can enjoy a healthy snack brought from home.

10:20AM-Outside time! After all of our friends are finished with snack, we head outside for some fun gross-motor play! We go outside rain or shine so weather appropriate attire is always encouraged! All kiddos will wash hands before lunch.

11:30AM-Lunch time! Lunches are sent from home each day. Children will sit together at their tables, enjoy conversations and social interactions among their tiny friends. Positive manners will be encouraged.

12:00PM (ish)-After finishing lunch kids can enjoy choice time along with an opportunity to do an afternoon art project or other daily activity provided by Ms. Jenny. Around 12:20 we will head into our circle time again for an end of day gathering to read another story and talk about our day a little more. This will help ease us into the next transition of getting ready to go home for the day.

12:45PM-Parents arrive. I will help gather their belongings and send them out of the Welcome room once you arrive & we say our goodbyes!

School Hours

The Book Nook Preschool has a four day a week program that runs Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM-12:45 PM. We also offer two different- two day options for Mondays & Wednesdays OR Tuesdays & Thursdays. The two day a week programs  both run from 9:00AM-12:45PM as well. If there are enough families interested in a afternoon school program-I’ll make it happen! We are NOT able to accommodate early bird or extended after school hours at this time. Hoping we can adapt this in the future!

Meet The Teacher!

Jenny Guyette

Lead Teacher

Hi! I am Ms. Jenny! I graduated from the University Of Oregon in 2011 with a bachelors of science degree in sociology. I have worked at Parenting Now, The Child Center & worked with children for over 27+ years! Between my years of education and hours or trainings I am at STEP 10 on the Oregon registry!

I had two kiddos of my own and decided to go back to school to earn my Early Childhood Education certificate at Portland State University. I then added one more little to my life (he was born with only half a heart-feel free to ask me about it, I love sharing his journey with others)! Motherhood is such an amazing thing and I love every minute of it.

I enjoy photography, art, baking & children’s literature. I am SO excited for this preschool adventure and I hope you join me on it. I can’t wait to meet you!

A little more about us!

The Book Nook Preschool is an in-home private recorded program open to children ages 3-5.5 years old. I am committed to supporting families by maintaining open communication and encourage parental involvement in my program and in your child’s activities. As a mom, I know how important it is to feel safe and comfortable when your child is not with you during the day. In order to create a space where you can see your child play and interact with others, I will set up a private account/private Facebook page so you are able to see some things that they do each week. I will also post pictures each week of the previous weeks activities.
We loosely follow the 4J September through mid-June schedule. School is in session Monday through Thursday 9:00am-12:45 pm (pick-up time is at 12:45). There will be a monthly calendar given out each month with details for the upcoming month including special events or no school days.

PLEASE NOTE: We are a dog, cat, earth worm and peanut friendly home.
